The story of the uncle
In no mood to ponder over pop-up structures tonight... Let me share with you something that really warmed my heart a day ago.
Last Sunday, I went to church with my parents. Due to some forgetfulness (as it always happen), my parents returned to the house to check on something (like if the windows were shut, electricity off etc etc) while I waited for them at BL mrt station. As it was getting late, I gave my mum a call from the station.
'Wei..' I initiated.
'Ah, Uncle!' my mum greeted me on the phone.
Then, there was silence.
Eeeew.. even my mum called me uncle?! :S I was momentarily heartbroken... Well, it turned out that my mum had mistaken me to be someone else whom she anticipated to receive a call from. Along the way to Somerset, there was a constant mention of this person whom my mum called 'Uncle' in our conversation. Uncle, as I found out, is one of my mum's ex-colleagues and he was joining us for service that Sunday. He is over 60 yrs old and it seemed everyone in the workplace greets him as such. I didn't get to see Uncle in person as I rushed off for Extreme Makeover.
After that, there was no mention of Uncle for a few days. Then on thursday, while visiting grandma with my mum, she let out a news I least expected. Uncle had embraced Christ in his heart! He said 'Yes' to Jesus during that Mandarin service. Wow. I could still sense the excitement from my mum's words as we talked about it on the escalator. My mum was very amazed by his response. She had thought 'it would be difficult'. But, no, it didn't turn out that way. Uncle did not hesitate to the prayer when he was asked if he would like to know the Lord personally.
I was so glad for my mum and the first person she brought to know Christ. Age is never a barrier to bring someone to know the love of God and it won't be a barrier for one to know a loving God. 50 plus, 60 plus? It just doesn't matter. I was so encouraged by my mum that evening.
Nvm I was called 'Uncle'. (I see it as my mum's accidental effort to rid off my sleepiness in the morning.) What's really great is that the real Uncle is now a brother! Praise be to the Lord!
God bless you with this story.
